With a sweet face, petite figure, and oh-so-fabulous fashion sense, who is this girl, anyway?
...it's Ruth. We all know Ruth as the fugly shape our poor avatar defaults to when our inventory fails to load. We also know Ruth as the shape we get automatically when we create a new one: Inventory > New Body Parts > Shape.
I wanted to see just how fashionista I could make the Ruth shape. My rules: no changing the shape in ANY way aside from changing foot size to 0. No photoshopping the screenshots in ANY way except cropping and adjusting brightness/contrast.

Now, Ruth's body proportions lead anyone to wonder if the staff at Linden Lab have ever seen an actual woman. To balance out her rugby-playing shoulders, I gave Ruth cute wavy hair and a full skirt. Ruth has a long torso and short legs, so she needed a super high heel to give length to her legs. In fact, this stiletto boot was the starting point to the outfit. Once I put on these boots, I realized Ruth needed a stylish black and white combo.

Her accessories tend towards the delicate and feminine, again to balance her top-heavy figure. The elegant corset top left her looking bare around the shoulders and just drew attention to their width, so I added a bead and chain necklace to focus the eye on Ruth's slender waist and hips. Her hands are dispoportionally large, so I added black lace gloves and black bangles to distract from them. Again, the narrow belt showcases Ruth's best feature, her tiny waist.
What shocked me the most about making over Ms. Ruth was that, with the right skin, she's actually got a really pretty face. This is the new SKIN 2.0 System in development, and the soft handdrawn features are delicate on Ruth's shape. I chose a neutral makeup for her, with a soft pink blush, light gloss on the lips, and a dark liner on the eyes. Ruth has thin lips, and choosing a lighter colour with a gloss will make them appear more full (versus a dark or matte finish, which will shrink her lip size visually.) I didn't have time to switch out the skin base file for dark eyebrows... oops. What Ruth is wearing:
Hair: ETD "Cutsie"
Skin: SKIN 2.0 next gen (in development) "Latte" tone
Shape: Inventory > New Body Parts > Shape (foot size 0) - Ruth!
Lashes: CS Classic 6
Eyes: Miriel's "Pacific"
Corset: Bossa Nova "Insensatez" Limited Edition
Skirt: Kyoot Army "Last Mobstress" (high waisted)
Boots: BAX White Patent
Necklace: Paper Couture "Black Beads"
Gloves: Um, something I'll probably put in a freebie pack someday. I keep wearing 'em and they're just something I made real quick.
Bangles: OPIUM Everyday layered bangles (tinted black)
So, your challenge, should you choose to accept it... get your Ruth shape ready, and give her a makeover! Remember, all you can change with the shape is her foot size to fit shoes, and no Photoshopping! I'd love to see what others can do with this once-hated shape. :)

I always thought Ruth was pretty cute, even if a bit "butch." Of course, Ruth will no longer be the plauge she once was - in the latest version of SL, the default appearance is now a green swirly, which I rather like!

I love seeing what other people come up with... keep them coming :)
You know, the more I look at her with makeovers, I think her body proportions actually aren't that bad. I've seen "models" with worse. :o
Well you asked for it!

What about all the guys who have found themselves Ruthed? I'm lucky enough to have a willing guinea pig who let me dress him up in a Ruth shape, what a blast! Check it out here:
